National Minimum Wage Increase

Today, 1 October 2013, the National Minimum Wage (NMW) increased by 12p from £6.19 to £6.31 per hour for people 21 and over. The rate for 18-to-20-year-olds is increasing by 5p to £5.03 an hour.

Although, we believe that this increase in NMW is a positive move, this is still a long way off from the £7.45 per hour that the Living Wage Foundation argues employers should pay to ensure people are taken out of the poverty trap. At Nation Recruit we have less than 0.12% of temporary workers on the NMW.

The increase in NMW combined with the previous introduction of Agency Workers Regulation 12-week rule (which ensures that temporary workers have the same opportunities as employers own employees) plus holiday pay makes Temporary Work a career option for many people who enjoy the flexibility of working on a temporary basis. Actually, due to the skill level and calibre of individuals represented by Nation Recruit, many of our temporary workers achieve Living Wage and above, making us the agency of choice with job seekers and employers.
